Located on the northern part of the island with a surface area of 22,59 Km 2, at an altitude of 290 m, it has a population of 11 959. It is 31 Km from Santa Cruz de Tenerife by road.

To the east it limits with La Victoria de Acentejo, to the west with La Orotava and to the south with Candelaria and Arafo.

The municipality’s waters drain through several canyons, carving a rocky terrain in the highlands.
